About/Artist statement
About
The seemingly lifeless objects, represent permanence in a world characterized by rapid change. They provide a tangible foothold, much like the physical act of climbing, an activity that Rosa very much enjoys. Due to the both mental and physical challenge she has to overcome. Climbing allows her to unite with the rock face, a symbiosis she aims to translate into her artwork, forging connections between humanity and the natural world.
In her practices of collecting, each stone was once part of a collective mass. At home the stones transform into a singular entities. This dynamic embodies the tension between solitude and community, which she likes to explore in her work. By creating colorful ceramics, she plays with this dichotomy. In her work she is striving to dissolve into nature, to disappear, to erase her own traces. This echoes in the work titled: ‘My Alter Ego is a Tree’. Through this video piece, she aspires to convey a message of increased care for the environment and the impact we human have on the earth.
Rosa’s artistic expression transcends mediums; she is drawn to illustration, photography, and ceramics. Each medium offers its unique perspective, and by uniting them, she creates a process that remains dynamic and iterative. Currently, she is pursuing a degree in Arts & Culture at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, which enriches her understanding of the art and culture sector from diverse angles. She is eager to integrate these insights into her future work, developing a dialogue about the interconnectedness of nature and human experience.

Rosa van Ham, (2003) is een interdisplinaire kunstenares.
Ze begint haar werk met observeren, kijken, staren, want ze is niet bang om oogcontact te maken.
Ze heeft interesse in verzamelen, voornamelijk van stenen.
Levenloze objecten die niet veranderen of vergaan. Ze bieden houvast, bijvoorbeeld om op te klimmen zoals Rosa graag doet in de natuur. Klimmen is zowel een fysieke als mentale uitdaging, waarbij je een word met de rots. Deze eenwording probeert ze te vertalen in haar werk, waarin ze verbinding zoekt tussen mens en natuur. Een van haar manieren is stenen uit de bergen verzamelen.
Thuis wordt de steen die zich eerst in een massa soortgenoten bevond plots een individu. Rosa speelt in haar werk met deze spanning tussen alleen en samen. Ze creëert nieuwe kleurrijke stenen van keramiek. Hiermee probeert ze zelf langzaam op te gaan in de natuur, te verdwijnen, haar eigen sporen uit te wissen. Net zoals te zien is in haar werk: ‘Mijn alter ego is een boom’. Het liefst zou ze doormiddel van het werk de boodschap willen overbrengen om meer oog te hebben voor de natuur. Een oplettend oog, die voorzichtig met zijn omgeving omgaat en naar andere omkijkt.
Rosa combineert graag een tal van mediums zoals, illustratie, fotografie en keramiek. Elk medium heeft een eigen perspectief en door ze te verenigen blijft haar creatieve proces dynamisch en iteratief. Daarnaast studeert Rosa ‘Arts & Culture’ op de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam. Waardoor ze verschillende perspectieve heeft op de kunst en cultuursector, die ze graag in wil zetten in haar verdere werk.
